A guaranteed solution to your Covid risk assessment worries.

Hospitality is gearing up to fully re-open as of Monday 17th May 2021. For many of these businesses it is the first time their doors will have been open for quite a while. Particularly if they have been unable to offer takeaway or deliveries or don’t  have an outside eating area. There is a definite buzz about being able to eat out again without having to wear a big winter coat and boots just to keep warm!

What will change?

See updated guidance for more details:

  1. Food and drink can be served indoors BUT customers must maintain social distancing and follow Covid controls.
  2. Customers can be seated in groups of up to 6 people or 2 households indoors.**
  3. Customers may eat or drink in groups of up to 30 people outdoors.
  4. If alcohol is served, customers must be seated to order, during service and when making payment indoors and outdoors.
  5. If alcohol is not served customers can order and serve at a counter but must be seated to eat or drink both indoors and outdoors.

Note: seated customers must keep 2m apart or 1m+ if other measures are in place between tables not within their group

Covid controls must still be in place

It is vitally important now more than ever to make sure that every business has the controls in place to stop the spread of the virus: hands, face, space and fresh air.

Staff play a vital role in encouraging customers to do the right thing and to keep everyone safe. Encourage everyone  to keep 2m apart if they can. If not 1m+ mitigation including back-to-back working or seating, using barriers or screens etc.  Put up signage to encourage social distancing throughout the workplace.


Don’t forget how important ventilation is in controlling the spread of coronavirus. Open doors and windows so there is plenty of natural fresh air particularly indoors.

Face Coverings

All staff and visitors who are customer facing must wear a face covering indoors unless there is a barrier such as a screen in place. If they are exempt they will be offered a non-customer facing role if available.

Also all customers must wear a face covering indoors unless they are exempt from wearing one**.

A sign must be displayed at the entrance reminding customers and staff to wear a face covering indoors . Customers can remove their face covering indoors when seated to eat and drink.

**customers do not need to prove they are exempt but may wear a lanyard or carry a card

Note that customers and staff who wish to wear a face covering outdoors should be allowed to do so.

NHS Trace and Trace

Display the NHS Test and Trace QR code  at the entrance and on individual customer tables and encourage customers to use it. All customers over the age of 16 should scan the QR code or give their details when asked (not just the lead member of the party).

If a customer does not have a smart phone write down their name and telephone number  in a designated book along with the time of entry and table number. Destroy these details  or erase them after 21 days. If you collect this customer information through your booking system you may already have these details.

Local Outbreak

Make sure you have a nominated person in case of a local outbreak and contact your Local Health Protection Team if this happens in your business.
